Just like The Dead Poet’s Society but lower

I don't go in for shoes all that much at home. I'm a barefoot or besocked soul mostly. I have, however, a pair of "outside" shoes for, well, outside – for taking rubbish to the bin and so on. For a long time, these were my old school shoes: a pair of sensible brown Clarks lace-ups. They finally gave up the ghost a few years ago and were replaced by a pair of equally sensible black Diana Ferrari slip-ons that had seen better days and were no longer suitable for work purposes. And this week, sadly, they too have been retired, having given their all in the mud and slush left after the garden had been levelled.

So today I bought some new outside shoes from Target, cheap slip-ons with chunky soles. I'm wearing them inside for a day or so to break them in and it's an odd feeling to see the everyday world from four centimetres higher. A whole new perspective!
