A spot of excitement

It's been an unexpectedly exciting day today. The hot water service at work broke, so we had water gushing through the kitchenette (not too bad, because the floor is concrete) and seeping under the wall to the meeting room (less good, because of the carpet). This led to the discovery that we don't own a mop or bucket or broom or towels or... well, or anything that could conceivably be useful in a flood. So Brian made an emergency trip to the hardware shop in the next block, and we are now the proud owners of an extremely high-tech mop.

While we were in a maintenance mode, we finally decided to do something about the missing fluorescent tube in one of the lights... well, we told Leeanne about it, anyway. It broke while she was on leave and it has been quite funny to watch the various ways we sidestepped the onerous task of changing it: ignoring, working in the dark, removing the broken tube and replacing the cover. Today one of us said we should do something about light, and Leeanne silently went to the store room and came back with the new tube that has been there for ages. Oops.

The excitement never stops

After the bad-exciting morning, I came home to good-exciting things in the mail: a phone bill. No, not really. I mean, I did get one of those too, but what I really meant was:

(1) my order from Nut & Bee! I opened it and made an "eeee!" noise that I'm sure would have been annoying to anyone who happened to hear it; happily no-one did. I bought a [livejournal.com profile] sketch_sweeties print for myself and some stationery as a birthday present. So thank you, Annette - they're lovely!

(2) my 2008 wall calendar from Miriam Bereson (complete with surprise frog magnet)! Won't my office wall look swish next year?
