Pixie pants

I think my diary is depressed today. This is the quote at the top of the page:
There is no greater pain than, in misery, to remember happy times.
That's a bit grim. Lighten up, diary!
I ran into some friends at lunchtime. She was buying a dress for a wedding they're going to soon; he was being pleased with himself because, as best man, his outfit will be provided. "I just turn up and my suit's there. I only need to bring shoes."
His wife stopped this gloating by reminding him of the last wedding in which he was involved in the wedding party, when his outfit included pixie pants. He agreed that the pixie pants were a terrible thing and helping her search for a dress was vastly preferable. Then they returned to their shopping and I went back to work, never having ascertained just what pixie pants are other than that they are in some way offensive to the male dignity.
So I googled and came up with two distinct options: one pair of pixie pants showed a pair of footless tights as part of a child's Peter Pan costume, the other showed a woman wearing baggy harem pants as part of an Arabian Nights costume. Well, that's... unhelpful.
