Dappled things
Apr. 18th, 2004 09:47 pmGLORY be to God for dappled things—
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough;
And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.
All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.
Dappled beauty all round this weekend. I made a marble cake for my mother's birthday yesterday. If it was for me, I'd have marbled it blue, green and yellow, but she's not really into adventurous food colourings, so her cake was a more traditional chocolate, pink and vanilla.
This evening, I finally finished Baby Norgi for Alison. I didn't feel up to doing a three-colour fair-isle though, so mine is only two - pale blue with cream design. I'm very pleased with it. I've got so much wool left over though, I think I could knit another one. I'll just add it to the wool stash though. Now I've just got to finish these cross-stitch initials in time for my god-twins' baptism, and I'm all done with the crafts for babies... and then I'm going to knit myself a Ravenclaw scarf (new film design).
