I have been possessed by the spirit of a discount superstore owner and ALL STOCK MUST GO! This week will be MARCH MEME MADNESS! Fifty percent off, or free if you find a better price anywhere!

Ahem.

Day 1: Words

A word that describes me is "soft".

My favourite word is "mist". Although really, there are so many lovely words, it's hard to pick a favourite.

My least favourite word is "airplane". I don't normally mind that Australians are increasingly using American terms for certain things, but this one drives me up the wall. I think because it sounds so childish to my ears, and "aeroplane" so lovely. Of course, I could just say "plane" and avoid the whole issue.

Use the two words in a sentence.
Heavy mist prevented the airplane from landing.

A word I always have to think twice about pronouncing is "algae", which I always want to pronounce with a hard g. To me, Algy is Ginger and Biggles' friend.

Dictionaries: printed or online? Mostly printed. I have several editions of both the Pocket Oxford and Australian Pocket Oxford, although I use dictionary.com if I have need of one at work. I won one of the Australian Pocket Oxfords for making the finals of the Victorian state spelling bee in Year 8; I came tenth after misspelling "wierd" "weird". I also would have lost if they'd asked me to spell "sheriff".

A word whose meaning I cannot seem to retain no matter how many times I look it up is "egress". Apparently, it has nothing to do with young eagles.

Open a dictionary to a random page and find a word you don't know. Post the word and the definition.
Rugose: wrinkled or corrugated.

Use the new word and the word you can never remember in a sentence.
As she made her egress from the bath, she noticed that her fingers had become rugose.

One of the most overused in my area of work/study is... actually my area of work doesn't overuse words so much as acronyms and initials. On any given day I can work out the GST, PAYG and FBT payable on the BAS, before calling ACRRM about the PGPPP, or the RACGP about CPD, RWAV about IMGs and OTDs in the RRAPP, GPET about RRMEO, COMET or IRIS, or the NIA about ANIA status, before knuckling down to submit my RIMS and FIMS reports. Indeed, the very name of my workplace is a seven letter acronym. To speak in whole words and lower case would be a rare treat.
