Office life
Mar. 28th, 2007 02:06 pmDo you ever suspect that people run away from the photocopier when they realise it's out of paper; perhaps turn it off and back on to get rid of the flashing light, then take off? So far today, I've had to load the photocopier, my printer, the fax machine and the other printer that we use for address labels. That can't be a coincidence, surely?
I've also had cause to ponder the Great Riddle of Petty Cash, an enigma that has puzzled humanity through the ages. Namely: there will always be five cents more than there should be. That's been the case everywhere I've worked. There's obviously some sort of Petty Cash Fairy who comes in at night and tips in a few random coins.
I was thinking, too, that if I ever start my own business (which is beyond unlikely), it will be called Low Key IT. Not high tech IT stuff, but just, say, spending a morning teaching middle-aged ladies how to send emails. I seem to spend enormous amounts of time doing that sort of thing - at work, it's explaining to people how to use a feed reader; at home, it's explaining to my mother that she hasn't broken the computer when a web page won't load - and I've come to the conclusion that it's a huge untapped market.
