A slow news day in Darwin
May. 30th, 2007 01:46 pmIs this really news? Even for an "offbeat" item, it's pretty thin. How would a journalist even find out about it?
How much has it rained in the last forty-eight hours? Well, since you ask, I'm thinking of building an ark. Except I won't have animals going on two-by-two; I'll just have one disgruntled pink cat and half a dozen bedraggled magpies... so quite a small ark, then. We'll be able to float down to the sea on the torrent of water that's gushing along the gutter. I'm really quite glad I live on a hill.
I came home yesterday to find water all over the kitchen bench as a result of a leaking window. Hmph. I rang Simon, the builder who installed the window (and a sort-of relative), and he said to wait and see and then call him if the leak persists or gets any worse. Thanks for that, Doctor Simon. Anyway, the leak has persisted because the rain has also persisted, but I'm in two minds about calling him again. I hate asking anyone for help, especially when he was not all that helpful the first time; also my colleague Brian said the same thing - something about dry wood needing time to swell - when I was telling him about it this morning. So I'm making do with a strategically placed bucket and towel while I wait and see if my kitchen floods.
