Yesterday I bought a new stapler because my old one just isn't meeting my stapling needs any more. It's very small and can only do ten pages. My new one can apparently do thirty, but what really made me buy it was that its box claims it is (or has) a Super FastClinch Rapid Freeze. I don't know what that means, but it sounds like a big breakthrough in stapling technology.

Today I spent the day at a football oval for the archery 'come and try' session held as part of the South West Games. It was pretty good, all things considered. Typically, we had a bit of everything in the weather: the day started off foggy, then it was hot and sunny so we all had our hats, sunglasses and sunscreen on, then the wind swung round to the south and blew our hats off, then it rained, and now it's still and fine but cold. You can't say our weather's not interesting.

I was in charge of gathering information about the participants (age, postcode, that sort of thing), and of giving certificates to any children who took part, and of telling people what to do if they enjoyed it so much they wanted to come to the weekly sessions. As it turned out, I was also in charge of taking photos with various peoples' cameras and of talking to the long-haired, goatee-bearded detective in thongs, shorts, flannelette shirt and quite a lot of gold jewellery. He came by to say (in fluent police-speak) that Warrnambool CIU had recently seized a number of arrows amongst some stolen property but the offender was being uncooperative about saying where he had obtained them. I organised for one of the archers to come to the station on Monday to see if the arrows can be identified. At the end of it all, I walked around the oval collecting the WARNING: ARCHERY IN PROGRESS signs, which was horribly reminiscent of packing up at the end of Phys. Ed. classes at school. At least I didn't have wander around the middle of the oval collecting all the stray arrows.
