The late news last night had a story about planking. I'd never heard of planking before. Perhaps I need to get out more. Perhaps all of you are merrily planking away, thinking I should get with the times. Perhaps not.

Anyway, planking turns out to be the practice of having your photograph taken while pretending to be a plank. So easy, anyone can do it. The reason it made the news is that one man planked on the boot of a police car. Police aren't generally known for their light-hearted whimsy, but, bless their hearts, they found a cracking thing to charge him with: being found on a police establishment without lawful excuse. (Is a car an establishment?) They also had footage of a policeman warning that people planking on private property could be charged with trespass, which he managed to do with a straight face.

Which was more than the newsreader could when the story finished. She had to hand over to the sports presenter after that and they did the usual jolly banter about the last story. But that planking story was just so stupid, they both got the giggles, and the news went to the ad break with the two of them almost weeping with the effort of keeping a straight face. I do enjoy things like that.
