The alien bigfoot
Jun. 20th, 2011 04:22 pmA few months ago, City by the Sea residents had to vote on changes to our bin collection. I think I mentioned it here. Anyway, the results are in: a resounding no to all changes, be they adding a green waste bin, having an annual hard rubbish collection or having our bins professionally cleaned. The bin cleaning option was especially unpopular, being rejected by 97% of participating voters. Interestingly (for a limited value of 'interesting'), 46% of votes were in favour of having daylight collections instead of our night-time ones, and that wasn't even one of the options. Obviously more people than just me were motivated to mention it in the comments section at the bottom.
Here's the council, pretending to give us a choice of things we don't want, inadvertently discovering something we do want. I like that. I bet they find some way to get the other three options running while still having night collections, though. These sorts of council plans, once mentioned, never go away.
ETA: I've just read today's texts to the editor on the topic. Apparently, all those who voted no are 'small minded, uneducated and penny-pinching'. That's me, then.
