Kay, a red nude, peeped under a yak
Mar. 29th, 2012 06:32 pmA few weeks back I placed an order for seeds and because I am member I also got to order two packets of free seeds. I picked 'gambler's choice', because, as you know, I like to live on the edge.
My package arrived today. The gambler's choice flowers were something called Queen Anne's lace and the gambler's choice vegetables were Round Red radishes. Then I opened a a magazine I bought earlier in the day to find a free packet of cauliflower seeds in it, made extra good because the packets are pretty. Truly, the universe is showering me with seeds.
As I do every autumn, I have some mushrooms growing just now. My box of Swiss browns is still... still doing whatever it is it's doing. The stuff in the box is brown and I'm not to start watering it until it turns white. Developing spores? I don't know. As long as it knows what it's doing. I've also got a log of oyster mushrooms. I've had them before. It's a sort of white log that the mushrooms grow on. This year, the log has been developing mysterious lumps all over it, like some sort of pox. When I watered it this morning, each lump had turned into a pincushion of tiny mushroom heads. And this is what it looks like this afternoon:

That's... quite a lot of mushrooms.
