From Hell to Heaven
Sep. 20th, 2013 01:15 pmWe have a treasure chest at work. It's a little wooden box that we keep filled with assorted sweets. People are funny with it. I take one thing from it each week as I leave for the weekend and leave it alone the rest of the time. Other people ignore it entirely and some, of course, are always in it. It's just outside my door, so I hear constant rummaging and rustling. Yesterday I heard more than that. ReplacementAngela opened the box to get something, and shrieked. 'Look at this!' she said to everyone looking. 'Look what I just picked up!' Her assistant, who was walking by, said, 'Oh my God!'
I thought, is it a spider? Or a dead mouse? Maybe one of those big moths that suddenly seem to be everywhere?
No. It was none of these things. It was... an empty Freddo Frog wrapper. Scandal!
Seriously, scandal. Four people stood around the box tsking about it for at least two minutes. The story was told and retold to everyone who came by. There was much discussion about who could have done this thing. It couldn't be a staff member, surely? Perhaps it was one of the cleaners! (It wasn't me, but if I'd known the fuss it would cause, I would have.) Future generations will ask, where were you the day someone left an empty Freddo Frog wrapper in the treasure chest? Truly, a day of infamy.
As I mentioned the other day, here is what I have been doing lately:
( Octopus )
It's an octopus, obviously, in sashiko embroidery from a pattern by Sylvia Pippen . It's about 35 cm/14 inches square. My problem now is what to do with it. I don't want to make a cushion because (a) I have enough cushions and (b) they get squashed. I have enough things hanging on the wall. My mother volunteered to make it the front panel of a tote bag, which seems as good as anything. I must learn to have a plan for things before I do them.
