I have been a little flat these last few weeks. Stage 3 lockdown again (plus masks this time) + audit + the bleak midwinter (it snowed within 100km of the City by the Sea the other day!). So I've made an effort this week to do something fun, or at least constructive and not work-related, every day.

Sunday
The very lovely [livejournal.com profile] emma2403 sent me a carton of sirop de Liège, which I used to make Belgian meatballs. And it was good. It has since proven to also be good with dry biscuits and cheese, and I will next try it on pancakes.

Monday
Poking through the craft supplies cupboard, I found a kit that had been attached to an old magazine to make a little woollen rainbow wall hanging. Small enough to do in an evening and to hang on my work pinboard, which has more decorative things than work things at the minute.

Tuesday
Shopping day. At the supermarket checkout was a display suggesting that for the low, low price of sixty-eight cents I could purchase a trial size tube of "Korean BBQ" Pringles. So I did. And while I am not generally the biggest fan of Pringles, I have to say that these were pretty good. I mean, I'm not about to rush out and buy more, but if you are in the market for a reconstituted potato chip that sort of tastes like Korean barbecue meat, then this is the snack for you.

Note also the picture on the tube, which shows a Pringle in a chef's hat holding a smaller Pringle over a flaming grill. That's... quite a concept.

Wednesday
I have an ancient little shredder, which has done the job for many years. It's just a shredder; I have to fit it over a rubbish bin to catch the strips. It's okay for occasional bank statements and the like. But working from home, I generate more and bigger council documents that shouldn't be lying around until I decide to set up the shredder. So when I had to do an order at the stationery shop, I added a new shredder to the list. This one comes with its own bin and cuts paper into confetti and it can cut credit cards and CDs into a special smaller bin inside the bin. This was actually work-related and not particularly constructive, but it was definitely most fun thing I did on Wednesday. I set it up next to my desk and I went shredding crazy.

Thursday
I made an appointment with the hairdresser a couple of weeks ago, only to find it fell in the first week of renewed lockdown. She texted me to say that, per the Department of Health, she could still operate as she's not in a beauty salon (which are closed), albeit under certain rules. "You're allowed to remove the mask while I'm cutting your hair," she said once I got there, "which is good, otherwise I'd be snipping everyone's elastics." Anyway, so: haircut!

Friday
Stretching the definition of fun, I did my tax. But I'm getting a small refund, so that's something to look forward to.

Saturday
I made a chocolate cake.
