My not-day in court

I got a jury summons a couple of weeks ago. I have to call the court every evening this week to see if I'm wanted the following day, but so far my services have not been needed. I think it would be quite interesting to be on a jury, but the waiting is no fun at all. Because I don't find out if I'm needed in court until after I finish work, I have to make sure that any urgent things for the following day are done before I leave, so my whole work routine is wonky this week.
This is the seventh time in ten years I've been called on for jury duty. Well... I've got seven jury questionnaires. I've only been summonsed three times and I've actually only had to attend once, when I sat around for a day in a cold, draughty room before not being picked to sit on a jury. A couple of days later, I came down with pneumonia (although that also could have been caused by the Evil Accounting Firm's decision that same week to hold its quarterly staff dinner outside in the middle of winter). So, hmm: my experience with the courts has not been a happy one.
