May. 11th, 2006 07:55 pm...revealed the brands most admired by Australians. The top five looked like this:
That is, a salty spread, the national public broadcaster, a chocolate biscuit, a search engine and a chocolate company. The rest of the top twenty comprised Coca Cola, Ten Network (a TV station), Bunnings (a hardware chain), Magnum (an icecream), Bonds (underwear), Seven Network (a TV station), Milo (a malt drink), Cherry Ripe (a chocolate bar), Myer (a department store), Microsoft, M&Ms, Flake (a chocolate bar), Nokia, Mars Bar (a chocolate bar) and Kit Kat (a chocolate bar). What a peculiar list! What a preponderance of chocolate-related things! And how hilarious that Channel Ten rates about Channel Seven, and Channel Nine doesn't even make the list!
The ABC aside (because it really is a national treasure, and an underfunded one at that), I don't think any of those would make my most admired list. I expect nothing more from Vegemite than it should sit in a jar in the pantry and make my toast taste salty every now and then. In that respect it never lets me down, but I wouldn't say I admired it. So what well-known brands would I admire? Ummm... maybe the Body Shop, before it was sold to L'Oréal. Perhaps organisations like Amnesty International, if they count as a brand. What about you?
- Vegemite
- the ABC
- Tim Tams
- Cadbury
