A bit of a jumble
Jun. 4th, 2009 09:49 pmNone of the books on my 'to read' pile took my fancy today, so I strolled down to the second-hand book shop a couple of blocks away. It was a profitable excursion. I came away with two books. The first was Lady Rose and Mrs Memmary by Ruby Ferguson, which I have wanted to read for ages. It was a favourite of the late Queen Mother, or so I read somewhere (that's not why I wanted to read it). The second book was The Runaways by Elizabeth Goudge. 'Previously published as Linnets and Valerians', the cover proclaims. I don't understand why anyone would want to change an intriguing name to a dull one, but who I am to question the wisdom of the publishing world?
