Walking in a rose garden with Kevin
Apr. 21st, 2010 03:31 pmIt is birthday week at work: one today, one tomorrow and one the day after. 'We should order a cake from somewhere,' said my boss, and, because I don't like cheese cake or mud cake or over-decorated cakes filled with mock cream, which are the only sort of ones that can be bought around here, I volunteered to make one. So we had lime yoghurt cake with berry sauce and cream, which didn't taste as tangy as I was expecting, but it seemed to go down well. Other than that it was a grah sort of morning. One of those where every inanimate thing hated me and didn't want to work. I'm looking at you, computer mouse.
Look at this photo. That is the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, talking to one of the state premiers, Kristina Keneally, during negotiations about hospital funding. Keneally is the one of only two female premiers at the moment. The headline attached to the article makes my skin crawl. Just because she's a young woman they bring out the wedding metaphors. They wouldn't put that if one of the other state premiers (mostly male, all middle-aged) was walking in a rose garden with Kevin.
