Intriguing fact: There was a seven-year publishing gap between yesterday's title and today's. She'd already died, because we're well into the posthumous Pink Collection. What were they doing? If I were a cynical person, I'd say they were writing some more, but they wouldn't do that. Or would they?

What did I do today?

The usual cat feeding business, then a walk on the beach path. I won't be doing that tomorrow, as there were signs up saying it's going to be blocked off for a bike race.

After breakfast, I did the weekly vacuuming. My mother's birthday is next week, so I went shopping for her present. I had already bought her, at her request, a rotating cutting mat. Today I bought a gift certificate for a clothes shop. Black Pepper seems to be her clothes shop of choice lately. I have never been into Black Pepper before, and when I went in today I discovered the source of the sleeveless zip-up vests worn by my mother and her friends and every woman over over 60 in the City by the Sea. I was alone in the shop for ages. Really alone, I mean. Not even a shop assistant. I coughed. I wandered around. I went to the back of the shop and looked at the staff door. I decided to give it until my watch said half-past (about two minutes), then leave, but just then an elderly woman emerged from the back. "Ooh, it's getting chilly today," was all she said. "Are you right browsing?"

In the afternoon I sorted a shelf of stuff. There's so much stuff in the house. Part of that is my mother moving in, so we've suddenly got a house and a half of stuff. So I'm getting rid of stuff, slowly. My mother went out, so I took the opportunity to wrap her present. (Where my mother went was out to John's house to check that it hasn't fallen down or if the lawn needed mowing. She and John's son are co-executors, and he's thinking of buying the house as a rental property, but in the meantime, he's letting my mother do all the maintenance. That's not right, is it? Thoughtless and/or lazy. Hmph.)

That was Saturday. And that was the week.
