Today I was thrilled to discover that the local paper is conducting a poll to find out readers' opinions about its content. Guess what I've just been doing! I had quite a bit to say about the Text the Editor column, for one thing. I initially said that a publication called The Standard should have some, before deciding that was a bit harsh. I changed it to say that I'd like the column more 'if it maintained standard (or even The Standard's) spelling and grammar'. That sounds nicer, doesn't it? Anyway, I have been put in a draw to win a prize for completing the survey. If I win, I will never say anything bad about the paper ever again. Ha.

I shouldn't bag the Standard too much, though. It recently ran a story I agreed with, listing the City by the Sea's ugliest buildings. Look at them, blighting our landscape! I don't mind the honeycomb TAFE building, but I could do without the rest of them.

Finally, there is an aeroplane wheel sitting on my printer. My colleague Brian is always sending plane parts away to special plane shops, but he tells me that the wheel is the same size as a gopher (motorised scooter) wheel and he can get a new one wherever gopher tyres are sold*. The things you learn.

* Note that he assumes I know where that is, which is, frankly, giving me way too much credit
