The Coin of Love

Do you remember I mentioned learning about a Hittite king called Suppiluliumas? There's a novel about him!. And I've just bought it.
That's against my 'no new books until I finish the ones I've got' policy, obviously, but, oh, let's live on the edge. I could argue that it's a used book, therefore still within the bounds of 'no new books', but that wouldn't quite be the spirit. Also, I went through my books the over the weekend and put quite a few in a box to take to charity. I was brutally honest with myself. 'Self,' I said, 'if you haven't read A Suitable Boy after all these years, you are never going to read it, so stop pretending. Same with His Dark Materials, when you stopped halfway through the first one after getting bored.' Do you know, I feel a weight off my mind getting rid of them. They were hanging over me.
I am just about to start reading yet another Victorian novel, Lady Audley's Secret. Given that both the description on Amazon and on the back of my copy refers to this as being a sensation novel about accidental bigamy, I hope that's not her secret. She's an accidental bigamist with a completely different thing that she's got to hide. Maybe it's a wooden leg.
