A Theatre of Love

todayiamadaisyMy mother said she would come in at about seven yesterday (Sunday) morning and we would go for a walk on the beach. I set my alarm for half-past six.
The alarm went off. I don't normally have to drag myself out of bed, but I did this time. Six-thirty is way too early to get up on a Sunday, I decided. It was dark out, but it is like that every morning now, and the sky is usually grey by seven.
I had my shower, got dressed, put on my walking shoes. My mother still hadn't arrived, so I filled in time by putting a new liner in the kitchen bin, and opened the door to take the old bag out to the big rubbish bin. And there at the open door I stopped.
The sky was black, f-list. Not grey with clouds in front, but black. As black as... night, actually. I went back in and looked at the kitchen clock. Ten to five. I went back and looked at my alarm clock. It also said to ten to five, and the alarm was still on and still set for six-thirty. I think the alarm that woke me was a dream.
I went back to bed for ninety minutes, but I didn't get back to sleep.
