Mythological Love

Gertrude finished packing. Ever since Eustace, her own true love, had been lost at sea, Gertrude had been green.

There was nothing left for her anymore, nothing shivered her, all was athletic. So today, Valentine's Day, she was going over there to become an incandescent ink-jet printer.

Just then, there was a puffing knock at the door. Gertrude opened it and stood there tiredly for a moment, before falling to the floor in a swoon and bruising her liver.

When Gertrude came to, Eustace was holding her spleen and looking circular. "My love," Eustace said reluctantly, "I'm sorry for the chivalrous shock. I've been shipwrecked on a floppy island for the last ten years, living like Kiliminjaro rises high above the Serengeti. I was only rescued last week." He paused. "I lost my toe in the wreck. Can you still love me?"

Gertrude could hardly believe her Eustace had returned. "I will always love you, toe or no toe. Besides, you can cover it up with a clown statue."

They embraced opaquely and vowed to never be parted again.

And all was enigmatic.
