I hate it when people try to tell me what I'm thinking, especially when it's not what I'm thinking at all. Someone I deal with regularly is forever doing it. She'll say something and then add, "And now Alicia's thinking I'm an idiot". And that's just her projecting her insecurities. (Of course, what I was actually thinking was "Go away, I'm busy!", which is not necessarily any nicer, but just because I think she's being a nuisance doesn't mean I think she's stupid.) Or perhaps I'm being unnecessarily curmudgeonly about her because she's one of those excessively enthusiastic people whom I find rather patronising. She's a former primary school teacher, so I suppose saying, "Oh, that looks won-derful!" is a habit that dies hard.

Anyway, photos. First, I've finished Dinara. She's got a knitted hat, coat, scarf & bag; I made the little badge on her bag too, with the aid of an art deco wingdings font and a badge maker (oh, that's right, I also bought one of them at the craft fair last week). She should also have a crochet poncho, but, um, crochet has never been my forte and it won't fit over her head. :-) Some remodelling is needed, I feel.

Second, as promised a few weeks ago, my mother's photo of a bee.

Third. Oh, now, there's a story here (not much of one, but still.). We've been having some of my favourite weather lately, which is when it pours with rain but is at the same time quite sunny. We get a lot of that at this time of year. In the late afternoon the clouds are dark blue and the sunlight is deep yellow and quite hard and shafts of it come through and hit buildings and make them shine. Driving home from work the other day, I was nearly blinded by one such shaft hitting the silver ball (a local landmark that is actually a factory water tower) with a rainbow behind it on a background of indigo clouds; it was magic. I meant to write about it, but I couldn't really describe it and, typically, didn't have a camera to record it. Most mornings, too, as I drive to work, the clouds are blue and the light is whiter and as I reach the top of the hill it catches a flock of homing pigeons flying below me, their wings flashing as they turn; one of my favourite moments of the day.

Anyway, we've been restructuring our work website and we hired a professional photographer to go around the region and in Winchelsea (slogan: Welcome to Winch!) he took one that came very close to what I wanted to say. The clouds are grey rather than blue and the light is white rather than yellow, but that glow on the building is the same. Sadly, I'm the only one who thought that shot was any good; it didn't make the website.
