The most magical day of the year

Sometimes you read something and it just doesn't register. I read this headline and couldn't parse it at all: Cops stop cyclist with butcher knife-pool cue axe. I thought the cops stopped a cyclist and a butcher, but the 'knife-pool cue axe' bit made no sense. I had to read the article to realise that the police stopped only one person, a cyclist, who had improvised an axe by tying a cleaver to a pool cue. As you do.
There are more merger-related shenanigans at work. We are back to 'this time next year, I will have a better job or none at all'. Sigh.
